A family session at Stoney Creek Metropark.

We took a trip to Stoney Creek this past Wednesday for some fun, family portraits. This is one of my favorite spots to photograph because of the natural beauty.  It's always very clean and there are literally thousands of locations inside to use for a backdrop.

The kiddos were great as well.  Mom had me a little worried when she said the little one is a "wild man" with the attention span of 2 seconds- but, a little distraction with some grass and sticks and he was putty in my hands.  His big sister must have been practicing her poses all week because she knocked it out too.  She was having a lot of fun, even suggesting photos that I should do.  I guess you could say she was my junior photographer assistant.  They were such a great family to photograph and I had so many favorites that it was hard to choose just a few for the blog.

Chris and Janine: A pregnancy session.

Michigan weather is pretty unpredictable and it's not uncommon to experience all four seasons in one day.  However, this past Sunday (which was the start of summer), the weather was absolutely perfect for Chris and Janine's pregnancy session.  After a brief morning rain, the clouds broke and gave us some awesome overcast lighting from above.

These two are anxiously awaiting the arrival of their first baby- a boy!  Thankfully, Janine has had lots of experience caring for a child... kind of.  It's no secret to anyone that Chris is actually a man-child and requires much of the same attention and dedication as three children under the age of 6.  His spontaneouty and persistence keeps Janine on her toes at all times.  I have no doubt that Chris will be the Dad who builds an actual flying rocket ship with his son and travels to outer-space.  He is an engineer, after all.

One thing I've noticed over the years of knowing Chris and Janine is they are a very loving and caring couple.  Their new baby is lucky to have them because I know they will be awesome parents.  I'm excited to meet him this August and to be the first one to photograph him.

For now, here are some pics of the parents-to-be:

Emily at the barn.

It's been a few years since I photographed this peanut inside of bowls and covered blankets in May of 2011.  The one thing I remembered about her as a newborn was all of that hair!  At 3, it's all about her beautiful blue eyes.

We've known Emily's parents for a long time but unfortunately haven't seen them since the last photo session.  We had them over for breakfast before pictures and watched our kids play together for the first time.  Both of them were very articulate when they spoke and they shared so many similarities in their thought processes- most notably, their negotiating skills.  Leah is pretty observant when it comes to everything going on around her and Emily was the same way.

As a father, I tend to notice all the little things that make each kid unique and special.  Emily, like Leah, is strong-willed, intense, focused, determined and definitely a leader.  She walks to the beat of her own drum and that's a good thing.  This spirited child will grow up and do many amazing things because it's in her nature.

Bryan and Meggan's Engagement.

Belle Isle in Detroit, Michigan was the starting point for Bryan and Meggan's engagement session last Thursday.  When we arrived, we were surprised to see that a movie company had taken over one of the locations I planned to use for the session.  Out of curiosity, I asked one of the security guys what movie was being shot and he gave me the "I can't tell you" runaround.  My first thought was to stay nearby in case Rachel McAdams showed up (she's on my list and Haley would totally understand given the circumstances) but we had to get on with the session because it was already 6:30 and daylight was dwindling.  My dreams of meeting Rachel, Rach, Ra, Chel, R, or whatever she wants me to call her, would have to wait another day.  Then the clouds that had been lingering around all day began to break and gray and dreary light turned into golden-rays of goodness!  Things were looking good.

The sun sets in Michigan.

And this weathered, rustic barn has survives another day.

More s'mores please!

The long and grueling Michigan winters make us appreciate the beautiful springs and summers.  Yesterday's weather was perfect and the grilled food was delicious!  Burgers, asparagus, beans, and fruit salad were on the menu and everyone gave it two-thumbs up!  The kids enjoyed playing outside and the evening eventually ended with some tasty s'mores made over the fire.

Jordan turns 1!

I can't believe it's been a whole year since I photographed this little guy at his house!  A few days ago, we did a Mini Portrait Session around the house.  Unfortunately, the weather was a crummy, humid, drizzly mess.  Thankfully, Jordan was cooperative so we got a lot of great shots in a short amount of time.  His smile was so casual and natural- almost like a model posing for the camera.

If not for the weather and time constraints, I could've kept photographing him!  He's very photogenic and a handsome boy :)  Here are some of my favorites from the session:
